PSLV-C-25 is India’s first interplanetary probe, the Mars orbital spacecraft was launched today i.e. on 5th November 2013 at 1436 hours at IST. It was launched from Satish Dawan space centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, near Chennai by ISRO (INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANISATION).

The scientific objectives of the mission inlcude exploration of Mars surface features, morphology, mineralogy and Martian atmosphere by indigenous scientific instruments but for me as a citizen it meant to see my country develop. I was glued to the TV screen and actually praying that this mission is successful as it will make India one of the few space powers to have explored the Red Planet after Russia, the United States and Europe.

When I saw it launching on the TV I was so exited and tensed and was just thinking what the scientists would be feeling who had worked day and night for 15 months to make this mission a success. 15 months for a mission of this scale is very very less! I am extremely proud right now and am not able to express my happiness. It is a gift to the nation.

This is just the start and we have a long way to go and I  am sure we are going to  make it and with this speed it won’t take a lot of time!

The sight was so beautiful, like a young white bird flying, making her mother proud!!
